Mo0D : very jaded
I have to admit...this yr's World Cup is a blast...no wait..it should be "was",not "is". Arghhhh!! for any non-soccer-fans-turned-world-cup-spectators who think the world cup fever is over, that would mean you'll never understand some of us, the soccer fans. not that i want to degrade those under that category; it's already such a bombastic feat to get earthlings on the nerves watching teams battling for the coveted title. But...quite simply, the fever won't just fade away like that! Temperatures are still high in most fans, some scathing from the seering truth in France's defeat, me being one of them, others basking in the Azurri joy.
It may seem unoblivious that this yr's world cup is to be a major chapter in football's history, and will be talked about again and again in future "history of World Cup" programmes. Coupled with Italy's fourth title, none of this generation would forget the disgraceful yet pitiful end to Zinedine Yazid "Zizou" Zidane's otherwise super glittering career; a maestro, a genius, a immensely skillful player with trademark tricks on the pitch, and probably one of the best- or the best football player in the world. He showed the world that even the best do made mistakes; to err is human after all, and even a normally calm, cool-headed guy like him could loose his cool under provocation/spats etc and went to the extent of headbutting in brute retaliation. Despite all that, he remains as the best player in many people's eyes and deserves the golden boot award, presented to the outstanding performer of the competition, having almost single-handedly helped the Les Bleus crawl back towards the finals after returning from international retirement.
Soccer aside, played netball for PE just now and got totally whooped by the other team comprising half the class. veron, xinyi and gal gang plus the boys like aravin, qiyang and ashley tormenting our defense throughout. we did our best though to hold them off and score a few through eric and choonheng, while others like me, louis, fadhli and the other gals tried to catch them on the break, but it was not to be. very entertaining game though. even got snippets of the zidane-headbutt and c. ronaldo-rooney incidents. hehe.
tomorrow is the sevens. i hope my past is not coming back to haunt me again.
